The Best in my Area

The person I chose is Ricardo Lagos. Although he didn’t study Public Administration he hold a high public office.

Ricardo Lagos Escobar studied Law and Economics. Before becoming a politician, he worked as a teacher at University of North Carolina and after that he was named director of the institute of economy at Universidad de Chile.

He began his political career in the 1980’s. He belongs to the socialist party. During the dictatorship he strongly opposed to it. Many years later he was named minister of Public Works. He was highly respected as politician and he decided to run for the presidency of Chile in the year 2000.

Among the polemic points of his government could be mentioned the Mapuche’s conflict and territorial recoveries; his action in problems of environmental nature; and the preparation of certain reforms, which were implemented in the following government, of Michelle Bachelet.

Public Admistration

I decided to study public administration because when I first looked into the program it appealed to me a lot, mainly because it covered a variety of subjects that I like, such as history, economy and law.

I had previously studied architecture for a year, and I realized it wasn’t what I wanted to study, I wasn’t happy with the educational institution I had chosen. So I quit and I started to think on what I really wanted to study. I did some research and I came across with public administration at Universidad de Chile, and I decided that it was the major I wanted to pursue.

Public administrators work mainly in the public area. They are the link between the citizens and the government. Professionals in this area create public policies to satisfy public interest, such as improvements in the health system, cultural programs at the different town councils, etc.

Finally, a good public administrator should be someone who can mediate between the citizens and government interest. As well as someone who is open minded so as to solve problems.

Your body - the 20s

I’m 21 and I party as a normal person my age, but I also take care of myself. One of the suggestions made on the article that I follow are:

- I sleep more than 6 hours a day, which allows me to do many activities during the day without feeling too tired.
- I eat vegetables and fruit every day. I also bought vitamin C and I take it every morning.
- I try to exercise every week. So I often play football with my friends. I also practice some skateboarding whenever I can.

The website I have selected is http://latercera.com/ because I enjoy reading news related to economics. I used to buy the newspaper at a store near my house. But then I discovered that I could read the same news from La Tercera’s website. Ever since then, I visit the website every other day.

I like the economic section because it is interesting to understand how the economical crisis develops and how it affects our society.

The website is very well organized and has many other sections to read, such as education, sports, entertainment, etc. La tercera’s website allows you to watch videos to have a better idea of the issues you have just read. In addition, you can find lots of pictures that illustrate most of the articles and also several comments from regular people about different pieces of news.

Finally, I think everybody should visit the website. It is free and you can read about what is going on in the world as well as in Chile. The economic section is very good and gives you a good idea about topics such as the economic crisis and our government’s money issues.
